Jonathan Brett, an English conductor based in Budapest, brings his distinctive interpretative insight to Mendelssohn's most beloved orchestral works. This intimate concert welcomes Budapest's international community - all introductions in both English and Hungarian.

Part of the 2026 Audite International Masterclass for Conductors, this concert is arranged to provide benchmark recordings of key works on the programme for study. The participants will have the chance to conduct these same works in July with the Solti Kamarazenekar and violinist Karolina Csáthy.

These are three works which are so well-known that professional orchestras can play them on auto-pilot. But exploring the real depth and meaning of this music so that it truly comes alive requires the highest level of conducting technique and musical understanding. Only then does it become possible to for the music to be reimagined with complete freshness and vitality.

Normally such gatherings of brilliant musicians occur in much bigger halls and with an entirely different atmosphere. This is an exceptional opportunity to hear these works in a beautiful and intimate setting, much closer to the kind of performance for which they were conceived.
